Newest OpenEdit Features

Each month we release a stable version of OpenEdit Digital Asset Management integrated with Web Content Management, in which we will offer at least one new feature. Last month we improved OpenEdit DAM's Reporting feature, bundled OpenEdit DAM with Caucho's Resin, built more thorough test scripts and worked on documentation for users.

When we release next week, you'll see that we have continued to improve the user documentation, added instructions to install OpenEdit DAM on OS X and explained how OpenEdit integrates with Canto Cumulus archive server for a feature rich web front end.

We will have finished the embedded video and audio player in OpenEdit DAM. Now you will be able to view and listen to your video and audio files within OpenEdit. Another feature we have recently finished is Version Control of assets. Using OpenEdit's new Versioning feature, you will be certain to have access to the correct and most recent version of your assets.

And although we currently have RSS feeds built into OpenEdit, originally for the OpenEdit blog module, we plan to build a User Interface to make RSS feeds easier to setup and use within our digital asset management module. An OpenEdit user suggested this would be beneficial for use in an instance where assets can be dynamically pulled from OpenEdit for quick viewing or would return the top search results within OpenEdit. We thought it was a good idea too, so we are going to implement it.

You don't need to download the OpenEdit bundled installer each time we have a new release. Once you've installed OpenEdit, you can log in as an Administrator, go to the OpenEdit Toolbar, to Settings, then to Upgrade Plug In's. Simply check which module(s) you would like to upgrade, select Upgrade and you're done!

In order to purchase consulting, I have been asked what version of OpenEdit I am using. How can you tell? If I knew how OE worked, I wouldn't need consulting - catch 22...
