Adding New Assets
There are several ways to add new assets to your Digital Asset Management site. Depending on whether you have only a few assets to add, and whether those assets fit categorically with a group of assets you have already mounted, one method will be preferred over the other. You should read the information below to decide which method will best suit your needs.
Importing Assets
Importing your digital assets into OpenEdit is easier now than ever before! Just follow these steps, and you will be managing your digital assets online in no time.
- Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Asset Editor" to get the asset folder view. If you do not see this link, be sure that you have the "Edit Assets" permission. See the User Management Documentation for information on enabling this permission.
- Click "Add Child Folder" to create a subfolder to contain your assets. Enter a name for the new folder and click "Add". This subfolder will also be the category name which will be automatically created for your new assets.
- You will see a confirmation that the new folder has been added. Click "Ok", and you should now see your new folder displayed.
- Click on your new folder to select it.
- Click on "Mount External Files", and enter the path to your digital assets.
- Click "Save", then click the link to "Synchronize Files".
- Your products have now been imported! You can view them by going to the "Find Assets" menu and selecting "Browse Categories".

Uploading a Single Asset
If you have one or two new assets to add to your archive, you can use the upload tool to add them.
- From the Tools menu in the green OpenEdit DAM header bar, select "Asset Editor".
- Create or Select the desired folder to which you wish to add assets. In the example below, a folder called "Birds" has been created.

- Now click on "Upload" and browse for the file you want to add.

- A second upload field will appear below the first. You can use this to upload several files at once.
- Click the Upload button. Your asset will be uploaded into the selected folder and added to the DAM system.
Adding a New Folder of Assets
Often, users will have several groups of assets in different locations that are already grouped by category or content. If you wish to add another folder that contains a group of assets, the best solution is to create a new folder and mount those assets into that folder. For more information on this, please see the General Administrative Tasks documentation.
